SOPA-Blackout bei identi.ca und der englischen Wikipedia

Der Gründer-CINEtologe schreibt diesen Blogeintrag als Nutzer des offenen Mikro-Blogging-Dienstes identi.ca (bedeutendste Plattform der freien Software StatusNet) sowie als Blogger, als der er direkt betroffen ist.

Aus aktuellem Anlass soll auf diesem Weg entsprechend darauf hingewiesen werden, dass in den USA im Kongress gerade mit dem sog. Stop Online Piracy Act (kurz: SOPA) Anstrengungen unternommen werden, um das freie Internet mit Maßnahmen zur angeblichen Wahrung geistigen Eigentums zu entstellen und ggf. sogar zu zensieren - zumindest als zensurfördernd und innovationshemmend werden diese Maßnahmen von KritikerInnen betrachtet.

Das englischsprachige Statement von Evan Prodromou auf status.net vom 14. Januar 2012 dazu liest sich wie folgt:

Identi.ca will join Reddit, the Cheezburger Network, and dozens of other web sites in protest of the Stop Online Privacy Act proposed in the US Congress and its corresponding Senate bill, Protect IP. We will be blacking out the service on Wednesday, January 18th 2012 from 8AM to 8PM EST. I want to explain why.

First, and most importantly, Identi.ca users have asked for it. A poll on Identi.ca had a 90% favorable response rate for a blackout. 

Second, because our company is based on an open Web and an open Internet. We want to make the social web look more like the Internet -- distributed, hierarchical, and participative. It's a journey, and we want the Internet to still be there when we reach our goals.

And third, because SOPA/PIPA will directly affect community-generated sites like Identi.ca.

Der Gründer-CINEtologe möchte an dieser Stelle ein klares Bekenntnis zum freien, offenen Internet abgeben, auf das er - auch als deutscher - Blogger dringend angewiesen ist.
Bei AVAAZ könnt ihr übrigens eurer persönlichen Ablehnung gegen SOPA in einer Petition zum Ausdruck bringen.
